The NHRA SPORTSnationals events, a staple of drag racing, have been postponed due to inclement weather forecasts in Kentucky and Maryland. This decision, made in collaboration with track officials and sponsors, prioritizes the safety and experience of the sportsman racers. The postponements are strategic, with the JEGS SPORTSnationals at Beech Bend Raceway Park now scheduled for the final weekend of August, as part of a revitalized JEGS Speedweek. This includes a Lucas Oil Series event, followed by the SPORTSnationals, maintaining the traditional class eliminations for Stock and Super Stock. The Top Alcohol portion of the series will still take place during this period.
In contrast, the Testo SPORTSnationals at Cecil County Dragway and the associated Northeast Division Lucas Oil Series event have been rescheduled for August 13-16. This move ensures the event's integrity while adapting to the weather conditions. The format remains unchanged, featuring a divisional event, class eliminations, and the SPORTSnationals race.
NHRA Sportsman Manager Jason Galvin emphasized the importance of these decisions, stating, 'We value our sportsman racers and want to deliver the best experience for them at each event.' This sentiment highlights the organization's commitment to the well-being of its participants. The collaboration with track officials and sponsors, including Broc Porter at Beech Bend Raceway Park and the JEGS Performance team, as well as Mark Dawson and the Cecil County Dragway team, showcases the NHRA's dedication to finding viable solutions.
These postponements are a testament to the NHRA's adaptability and commitment to the sport's integrity. Despite the challenges, the organization strives to provide a positive and safe racing experience for its participants. The rescheduled dates for August offer a fresh opportunity for the racing community to gather and enjoy the thrill of drag racing, with the added bonus of the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals on the horizon.
